Founded in 1991, the House of Mercy is currently the home of twenty destitute elderly persons ; some are patients confined to bed.
A duty nurse constantly looks after their health, renders them needed medical assistance, shows them piety, and generally takes care of their daily needs.
The residents in the House of Mercy are Orthodox Christians who have either been abandoned by their relatives, or have otherwise no one to care for them. Elderly women may reside in separate rooms, or share rooms with others. Those who are well enough attend church services and receive the mystery of Holy Communion. Patients confined to bed are visited by a priest for Holy Confession and Holy Communion.
